Jeff Geerling and a few other big names in the space got to play with the Raspberry Pi 5, and things are looking good.
From what we know now about the Raspberry Pi 5 vs. what we knew a week ago, we aren't getting anything mind-blowing, but we are getting a sequel to the monstrous success of the Pi 4.
With other powerhouses that already exist in the SBC world, like the Orange Pi 5, Raspberry Pi seems to have aimed their sights at efficiency instead of raw power. The Raspberry Pi was always held in high regard for its efficiency, but I expected them to try and keep up with the Joneses and make the most powerful SBC on the market.
It boasts a 2-3x performance increase, which sounds nice when you're talking about a product that gets a release every few years. But the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B was released in June 2019. Not to sound negative, just having some fun with the marketing team.
The name of the game here is efficiency, and if it is as great as I'm hearing, it will mean huge advancements in battery performance over past models. And with the current boom in handheld PCs, this could make for some interesting builds. Get your 3D printers warmed up with some extra filament because I will be watching Etsy shops like a hawk for handheld shells and parts for the Pi 5.

Will Raspberry Pi 4 power supply work with Raspberry Pi 5?
They recommend a high-quality 5V 5A USB-C power supply, such as the new Raspberry Pi 27W USB-C Power Supply.
Will Raspberry Pi 5 fit my Raspberry Pi 4 case?
Nope
For now, we just have to sit and wait for the release date of... sometime in October.
Sites are taking preorders if you're into that sort of thing. I preordered mine from SparkFun. Excited to get my hands on it and show y’all what it can do.
